Pathway to Success

At NJTP we have spent 25+ years perfecting our tennis program.  Over the years, we have learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t work in developing junior tennis players. We are here to help guide you and your child through this junior tennis development process.  When properly followed, this process enables students to realize their full potential, in tennis and in life! We call this the Pathway to Success.

10 and Under Tennis

The Neighborhood Junior Tennis Program uses the 10-and-Under Tennis format (also known as red/orange/green ball) in our beginner- and intermediate-level junior classes.  We strongly believe that the 10-and-Under format is the best way to develop junior players and teach them the most solid fundamentals of the game. For an introduction to the red/orange/green ball progression, watch this video from USTA demonstrating how it works: USTA 10-and-Under Tennis 3D Video We are here to help guide you and your child through this junior tennis development process.  When properly followed, this process enables students to realize their full potential, in tennis and in life! We call this the Pathway to Success.

Fitness and Injury Prevention in Tennis

Tennis is a sport that requires not only skill, but also strength, speed and endurance.  A player’s overall fitness level plays a major role in how they perform on the court!

Fuel Up for Tennis!

It’s very important for tennis players to have proper nutrition and hydration before getting on the court—what you eat and drink before you play tennis can have a big impact on how well you’ll play!

Parent Etiquette

During most sporting events, cheering, clapping, and yelling are part of the culture.  However, tennis has a different set of rules and guidelines for spectators. Below you will find the guidelines and regulations for spectators during a tennis match.

TOURNAMENTS

Introduction to Tournaments At NJTP, we strongly believe in playing tournaments as a way to gain competitive experience and improve your skills as a tennis player. Playing tournaments is an essential part of our Pathway to Success for junior tennis players. We have seen it proven over and over: kids who play lots of tournaments are better tennis players! Playing tournaments helps motivate kids to practice hard and play well in their practice matches. It teaches them to handle the ups and downs of competitive match play. It requires kids to develop strategies to win against new, unknown opponents with different styles of play.
